Works with the girls in the chocolaterie. He is their friend, male confidant and often times saviour when they get into situations over their head. He is the laid back commentator on their actions and behaviours, always ready with a gentle jab or quip. He is genuinely amazed at the three girls and their thinking processes...and often times alarmed at what they are about to do. He saves most of his sharper barbs for Liebe, whose hare brained schemes and manic behaviour are galaxies away from James' attitude.
His good nature and kidding ability is a welcome relief to all, and in the shop (which is a hang out for the kids) he can provide a humorous running commentary of all things adolescent. That "sardonic" quality appeals to the boys in the show, as they appreciate the things he says (that they are afraid of saying). And as mentioned, he spreads his love of reggae wherever he goes. Even if not all the time appropriate.
